Most of the time, we are encouraged to cut down on our coffee intake, but personally, I’ve always struggled with that. The wonderful smell of freshly brewed coffee in the morning is just too much to give up! There are so many tempting ways of drinking coffee, the pour-over, expresso, using the traditional method or the modern coffee pods. It’s such a treat to have freshly brewed coffee and only the best Keurig coffee pods will do!
In this blog post, I wanted to look into some of the health benefits of drinking coffee, which makes me think that as long as I’ll continue to be sensible about my coffee intake, I’ll be just fine!
1. So many different ways of drinking coffee
This is the fun part about drinking coffee – trying different types of coffee or ways to drink it! There are so many new single-origin coffee beans to choose from and each has it’s own unique flavour.
It’s also great to try different types of milk, like oat, almond or other plant-based milks. Depending on what milk you choose, your coffee will taste slightly different.
2. With or without sugar
A lot of people find coffee slightly bitter and they prefer to drink it with sugar. Whilst there is nothing wrong with white sugar, using different types of brown, demerara or other natural sugars can pleasantly change the flavour of your coffee.
Brown sugar surprisingly contains the same amount of calories as white sugar, but it’s far better for flavouring your coffee. These are just some of the amazing facts about using brown sugar in the coffee, which will hopefully encourage you to try a different way of drinking your favourite coffee.
3. Coffee contains antioxidants
Antioxidants in coffee have shown that they can be beneficial in preventing liver disease and also help to slow down the effects of Parkinson’s, dementia, and Alzheimer’s. To get the best benefit, use coffee beans that have not been processed too much, such as green coffee beans or lightly roasted coffee beans.
4. Caffeine makes us stay focused
We all know that coffee keeps us awake, but to get the most from your coffee, drink it sparingly. If you drink coffee all the time, your body will become used to the caffeine, and you won’t really feel much of a benefit.
5. Coffee brings us together
Having a coffee with a friend is about much more than just stopping to have a drink. It gives us the opportunity to catch up, share our thoughts or problems with somebody else.
6. Coffee can help you to lose weight
It’s well known that coffee can suppress our appetite, which can help us to manage our weight better. I’m definitely not advocating that you should use caffeine as a way to lose weight. However, if you are choosing between a carbonated sweet drink or a coffee with just a dash of milk, the coffee will definitely be the healthier choice.
